Welcome to the Gerrards Cross Community Library project.
Since October 2011 when Bucks County Council agreed in principle to transfer Gerrards Cross library to community status, the project has made great progress. We now envisage that our library will become a Community Library on 1st September 2012.
In view of the relatively large size of the library (the largest in the UK to become a community library) agreement has been reached that it will continue to be managed by the County Council’s library service but with a new charitable trust – The Gerrards Cross Community Library Charity – taking on responsibility for volunteer resources to help staff the library, and for local fund raising to partially defray the cost.
So we now face a dual challenge: to enlist sufficient Volunteers to ensure that we can meet our staffing commitments, and to obtain a regular income stream through annual direct debits by Friends and though one-off donations from Benefactors.
Volunteer training has already started, covering the rôle of in-library support staff including familiarity with the Bucks Libraries’ ‘SPYDUS’ computer system. To ensure a satisfactory roster, we are looking for additional volunteers. If you are willing to commit some of your time to join our team, please click here for more information.

The Library Project is being organised by a committee of the Charity drawn from the local community in cooperation with BCC Library Services; details are given here.
